Due to COVID-19, the need for protective garments in Colombia and Ecuador continues to increase. Brother International Corporation, through its sewing machines division, is lending a hand to these local initiatives during the pandemic through a corporate donation of sewing machines in both countries.

The Japanese company signed an agreement with the Chamber of Ecuadorean Design, in Quito, Ecuador through which a corporate donation of sewing machines was made to the Centro del Muchacho Trabajador (Center for Child Labor), on May 20th,2020, one of the organizations involved with the Design During the Emergency effort.

The initiative to locally sew high quality protective garments is being led by the Chamber of Ecuadorean Design, to encourage the union of professionals and design students, to locally sew garments and provide these special garments to various segments such as hospitals and foundations. As a result of this initiative, it is expected that up to 500 outfits will be provided to beneficiaries who would otherwise have difficulty obtaining these types of garments.

Brother also provided support in Bogota, Colombia with Inexmoda, who channeled the donation on May 21st, 2020 to Back Side Ltd., a small enterprise that produces clothing locally and is part of Alianza Marca País (Alliance for the Country’s Brand).

Inexmoda has led the development of the textile and fashion design industry with a focus on opportunities and transforming solutions adapted to the new reality, encouraging local production of high-quality protective  garments to increase access to these items to various segments of the population.

It is expected that as a result of this alliance, small and medium-sized Colombian business es can continue with their work, reinventing themselves during the crisis.
