The Role at a Glance

The Senior Director, Warehouse Operations is accountable for effectively managing North America warehousing operations to include receiving, shipping, transfers, inventory control, labor management, and safeguarding Brother assets. The position is accountable for the Warehouse Operations budget development and control costs and to reduce expenditures without compromising the operation’s capabilities to service customers. The Senior Director, Warehouse Operations is accountable for the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives that will enable operational efficiencies across all warehouses to improve customer satisfaction and savings. This position is accountable for creating long, medium- and short-term initiatives with the collaboration of various departments such as Finance, HR, Information Technology (IT), Order Management, Supply Chain Planning and Transportation to drive overall supply chain excellence throughout process delivery and practices, driving operational excellence through continuous improvement, and excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
 

Strategic Direction

  • Develop the area road map from the current state to the future state that meets external and internal customer requirements for best-in-class service, operational practices, top tier technology usage, automation and costs reduction.
  • Together with IT, develop the SC IT Road Map strategy (aligned to previous bullet point) for the following 5 years.
  • Accountable for the analysis, design, development and execution of North America optimal Warehouse Network that will allow Brother to improve Internal and External Customer Service, Operational Cost reduction and Profit Improvement the Brother North America.
  • Together with IT and Procurement, analysis, design and develop Americas Best in Class 3PL Logistic models and operational and technological infrastructure.
  • Accountable for leading the development of operational, automation and technological short, medium- and long-term warehouse operations strategies that deliver improvements in productivity, inventory quality and inventory controls, service to internal and external customer, delivering P&L improvements.
  • Assess current and future operational risks and translate those into strategies, capabilities, best practices, projects and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Management of Departmental Financial Responsibilities

  • Create the annual divisional budget, assuring YoY cost improvement
  • Partner with Finance to perform Monthly and Quarterly budget analysis for all Warehouse Operational costs.
  • Accountable for developing action (operational and strategic) plans to stay within the annual budget requirements while still maintaining the required Business and Customer (external and internal) service levels.
  • Lead strategic and operational working sessions to continually identify opportunities for improvement, quality, cost and service, assuring the over delivery of the annual budget.
  • Develop Monthly and quarterly Warehouse Operations Risk & Opportunities based on operational efficiencies/inefficiencies driving a YTG plan that guarantees the annual budget is achieved.
  • Partner with the Finance team to create financial business cases for all continuous and automation improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Finance to execute Postmortem analysis of the continuous improvement and automation initiatives that are being executed to guarantee that the developed financial business cases are met.
  • Ensure that all warehouse operations financial functions are accurate, and timely and meet all established JSOX and financial policies.
  • Develop a continuous improvement approach across the warehouse operations organization to challenge the operational “status quo” and optimize operational cost and service
  • Accountable for creating an environment of collaboration, innovation, problem-solving and continuous improvement within his team and with the interaction with the Transportation, Order Management, Supply Chain Planning, Tech Solutions and BIUS teams so Supply Chain financial and operational target are delivered.
  • Work closely with the order management team to define “Total Order Cycle” optimization initiatives (automation, technological, operational) to improve internal and external customer satisfaction and operational costs.

Operations Management

  • Together with the Warehouse 3PL, his team, the IT and the Engineering teams, accountable for leading and organizing the Analyze, Design, Build and Execution of best-in-class process improvements to fulfill External and Internal (BIUS, Transportation, Tech Solutions, Planning, Total Order Cycle Management) Customers Service Level Agreements.
  • Accountable for delivering Warehouse Operational performance results through the management of the third partly logistics provider.
  • Provide direction, leadership and guidance to leadership staff and monitor the warehouse operational efficiency and effectiveness to build a high-performance organization.
  • Develop, direct, and manage overall improvement targets and oversee execution of initiatives to guarantee Customer Service Agreements are met while at the same time warehouse operational and financial targets are delivered.
  • Manage and Coordinate through his team, the daily warehouse operations within the Brother distribution network (North America)
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain Planning team to plan for future warehouse space for efficient utilization to minimize expenses.
  • Work closely with the Inbound / Outbound Transportation teams to develop joint plans to improve customer service levels and operational costs.
  • Partner with the HR, IT, Procurement and Financial teams to address open issues and develop best-in-class cross functional practices, processes, metrics, and reports for the warehouse operations area.

Provider and Vendor Management

  • Conduct monthly, quarterly and annual business reviews (MBR, QBR and ABR) with all 3rd party providers to ensure consistent Service Levels are met and business and customer (external and internal) needs are addressed.
  • Partner with the Procurement team to manage and develop vendors procurement 5 years road map and strategies in order to improve their service to Brother, automation services and cost reductions.
  • Accountable for delivering business and customer (external and internal) service commitments, assuring the over delivery of the annual targets.
  • Develop a continuous improvement approach with all 3rd party providers to maximize customer service levels, technologies, automation and optimize operational costs.
  • Accountable for leading the development of short-, medium- and long-term strategic initiatives around 3PL contract model, Warehouse’s Network Design, Automation and new Technologies to reduce cost, improve data analysis, improve companies P&L and drive service improvements.

Key Experience & Qualifications
 

Experience

  • Managing a high-volume distribution center, on-site 3PL vendor relationships, B2C and B2B operations – 15+ years
  • Leading national warehouse operations – 15+ years
  • Continuous improvement and operational and technological transformation achievements – 10+ years
  • Leading North America warehouse operations – 5+ years
  • Leading Latin America warehouse operations – 5+ years (PREFERRED)

Software/Technical Skills

  • Warehouse Management System (WMS)
  • SAP Order Management

Other Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Strong attention to quality and detail
  • Ability to impact change through influence and collaboration across multiple levels of the organization
  • Ability to successfully manage through complexity
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills; the ability to motivate positive and cooperative working relationships

Compensation & Schedule for This Role

This role will work on-site from our Bartlett Tennessee distribution center, with the expectation to travel approximately 8-10 times throughout the year to our distributions centers in California and Virginia, as well as to our corporate headquarters in New Jersey.

  • The salary (or hiring) range for this position is $ 195,000 - $ 225,000  per year
  • Starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data
  • This position is eligible to participate in the relevant Brother variable pay incentive plan(s). Applicable bonus awards are discretionary and contingent upon 1) achievement of your individual objectives and 2) Brother achieving its corporate and business-level objectives

About Where We Work 

Brother’s corporate headquarters for the Americas is in Bridgewater, NJ, across from the Bridgewater Commons Mall. This location houses key corporate functions, including HR, legal, finance, IT, and supply chain, and a significant presence of our business unit leadership and marketing teams. Our manufacturing and distribution facility in Bartlett, TN spans an impressive 1.5 million square feet - equivalent to 26 football fields - and is located on Brother Boulevard. In addition to the distribution center operations team, this facility hosts several other departments, including our customer service group. Brother also has employees based in other locations, such as Westminster, CO, where many of our marketing and product engineering team members from the mobile solutions division operate, as well as our distribution centers in Richmond, VA and Perris, CA. Additionally, our outside sales teams work remotely within their territories, staying geographically close to the accounts they support to ensure they are always “at your side” for our customers.
